Handmade Washi Experience Studio

 update: August 12, 2022

Thank you very much for visiting us.
In order to help prevent the spread of COVID 19, we had limited a reservation to one group (up to 5 guests) per slot, so that you do not need to share the class with others taking regular classes (Washi Paper Making / RAKUSUI-SHI Making / Patterned Paper Making) .
Also, we have stopped taking reservations for the class starting at 16:00.
The start time of the Patterned Paper Making class in the afternoon has been changed to 15:00 from 16:00 for the time being.

RAKUSUI is one of the traditional washi making techniques. Setting a mold on a wet washi, drop some water on it and you can draw various patterns. Without a mold you can draw random dot patterns. Any water-repellent material with smooth surface can be used as a mold. You can bring in what you have made from home.

You can make A4 sheet of washi with some materials we have in our studio: colored washi paper, Yuzen washi(patterned paper), Tengu-joshi(thin paper), pressed flowers, colored Kozo fibers and gold/silver leaves. You can design your own paper freely using our materials or you can make an original Rakusui paper with the combination of colored washi and/or colored Kozo fibers as you like. You can also bring in your own materials or motifs.
*Note: when you bring in your own materials, please choose thin, flat, non-water-repellent materials to finish your paper nicely.
